The Name

So I realized the name needs a little explaining.

Most kids have some kind of stuffed animal - a teddy bear is classic, maybe a dog, or perhaps even a Popple (you know who you are...) Me? I'm a little different.

When I was only a year old, a family friend gave me a stuffed grey Hippo. At the same time, our family also had a cat of the very same color and size. When she pulled the Hippo out of the box, I pointed to him and stated emphatically "CAT!" I then preceded to ignore all subsequent laughing attempts at correction. Since then, there has been no other grey stuffed ball of cotton like him.

I brought Hippo down to school my sophomore year, and since then all my friends have taken a special interest in him. The following year Jenn saw Hippo, and immediately started calling me "Nilpferd," or literally "horse of the Nile (River)". Ohh those crazy Germans. Since that name was taken I used Flusspferd for the name of my blog, which is another word for Hippopotomus.

Oh, and Matthew Hinz: GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY HIPPO!!
